Please join us for
quilting fun on the beautiful American Riviera,
with two of the most talented teachers in the world of quilting!

Sue Spargo and Tonye Belinda Phillips
Tonye
is from beautiful Camp Sherman, Oregon just outside Sisters which
is home of Quilters Affaire Outdoor Quilt Show www.sistersoutdoorquiltshow.org
Tonye
has been a teacher at the show for many years and her appliqué
work is exquisite and this year she has teamed up with Sue Spargo
the Wool Wizard. They inspire with their design sense and wonderful
color magic. Tonye started quilting in 1992, but prior to that learned
from her mom Marjorie to crewel embroidery, sew, cross-stitch and
knitting so she like many of us has a love of the hand arts…
She and her family love the outdoors, sailing, hiking, etc. She
wrote her first book in 2008 Hand Appliquéd Quilts/Whimsical
Designs and Simple Techniques. Pick up a copy of her book at www.tonyebelindaphillips.com
Sue
Spargo came to my attention also at the Quilters Affair several
years ago. She was born in Zambia and moved to South Africa where
she was educated as a nurse. She moved to England soon after that
and the contrast between the arid beige and browns of African bushveld
and the lush greens of the rolling hills of Southern England was
a source of ideas and stimulated her creativity. She loves African
inspired design and the primitive arts and crafts and it eventually
grew into her focus on folk-art. In 1989 she moved to the US and
lives with her talented family in Ohio. Her sister Wendy collaborates
with her and dyes all of the beautiful wools and velvets Sue uses
in her creations. I love watching her website and receiving her
blog because I know I will be treated to some new great color scheme,
design idea or wonderful book to purchase. The books are numerous
and I am going to recommend that you proceed to Sue’s website
www.suespargo.com to check them out along with the many quilt projects
and ideas available there, also subscribe to her blog
it is a treat!
T his retreat will be a very special one of a kind event, join us

The
retreat will begin with check in on Monday 4pm at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel in Ventura and you will be able to claim your table and get
set up even if you are a commuter. Class will start on Tuesday morning
at 9am. You will get a voucher for Breakfast each morning and you
may redeem that in the dining room. Lunch will be served in the
classroom each day and you will have about a 2 hour break during
lunch time. Class will adjourn each day at 4pm and dinner will be
on your own, except Wednesday night, however most night’s
folks love to go somewhere together and the classroom will be open
for sewing after dinner. On Wednesday evening we will all visit
Roxanne’s A
Wish and A Dream in Carpinteria for our Wine, Cheese and Shopping
evening followed by dinner in our favorite Mexican restaurant. Friday
class will begin at 9am and over at noon, no lunch served that day.
Included in the retreat will be 4 breakfast, 3 lunches, 1 dinner
and our wonderful wine and cheese event. Each person is provided
with about 6 ft of space to sew, ironing stations and plenty of
room to cut. Bring your design wall!
The
picture of the collaboration quilt that Sue and Tonye did for their
first class together in Camp Sherman is wonderful and I have the
actual quilt at my home right now and can barely keep from touching
it each time I see it. You will feel the same way about the creation
you make at the retreat.
